Taking Deposits to Prevent No-Shows
Deposits are one of the most effective ways to reduce no-shows. Clients are far less likely to miss an appointment they've already partially paid for.
How Deposits Work
- Client selects a service that requires a deposit
- At the end of the booking flow, they're taken to a Stripe payment page
- They pay the deposit amount (e.g. £20 or 25% of service price)
- The booking is confirmed only after successful payment
- You receive the deposit directly into your connected Stripe account
Setting Up a Deposit
- Go to Services in your sidebar
- Click Edit on the service you want to add a deposit to
- Toggle Require Deposit to on
- Choose the deposit type:
- Fixed — a specific £ amount (e.g. £20)
- Percent — a percentage of the service price (e.g. 25%)
- Enter the amount
- Click Save
Requirements
- Stripe Connect must be fully connected and verified before deposits work
- If Stripe isn't connected, the deposit option is ignored and bookings confirm without payment
Deposit Policy
Your Booking Policy (Settings > Booking Policy) should explain what happens to the deposit if a client cancels. Clients see this policy before confirming their booking.
Refunding a Deposit
Deposits are not automatically refunded on cancellation. To issue a refund:
- Log into your Stripe dashboard at dashboard.stripe.com
- Find the payment under Payments
- Click Refund
- Choose full or partial refund
Full Payments
You can also require the full service price as an upfront payment by setting the deposit to 100% of the price (use Percent type, enter 100).
